New
project supported by Teesside Shopping Park helps pupils
at North Ormesby Primary to love reading

British Land, the owners of Teesside
Shopping Park, are funding free books for the 220 pupils
at North Ormesby Primary as part of the “Reading
is Fundamental” (RIF)
project organised by the National Literacy Trust.
The project was first launched at the school in November
in the presence of GP Taylor, author, ex-policeman, vicar
and exorcist, whose book Shadowmancer was named “Book
of the Boro” and has achieved worldwide fame.
British Land’s funding is allowing the school
to build on the hard work it has already done to improve
reading habits and reading for pleasure. North Ormesby
has already supported the Big Boro Read, and participated
in a variety of National Literacy Trust initiatives.
The school’s 220 pupils were given the chance
to choose a free book to keep at the launch event, with
a total of 1320 books given to the students over six
events throughout the school year. The next event is
scheduled for 18th December, when children’s
novelist and broadcaster Tommy Donbavand will be working
with the pupils.
The events aim to inspire children with a lifelong love
of reading and the ability to pick and choose books that
will enrich their lives and careers.
